Thought it might be handy to have a thread containing any useful hints/tips anyone has... -------------------- 01. Crouching speeds up gathering
02. You can drive some monsters into other areas using dung bombs. They wont work on everything though, and you cant hit the dunged monster or it wont work. Good for splitting monsters up for when Quru calls in backup for example.
03. When pinned to the ground by los/ian, a dung bomb will break the pin. Don't think it works on Giggi, just got to beat him down to stop his.
04. SnS can stun and drain monster stamina with the new shield bash move.
05. Diablos can stick in the walls when charging like previous games. It's not as easy as it once was though.
06. Alatreon is immune to traps.
07. Blos is immune to sonics in rage mode. In fact, most things are now immune to these types of items in rage mode (not sure on that)
08. Deviljho can appear on any HR31+ quests. He one shot me (140 HP from food buff) with a flame breath/aura type thing, and can almost one shot with the rock throw thing he does. Dragon Resistance looks to be a must have at this point if you wish to fight him. May not be possible to kill at this point although unconfirmed.
09. You can carve inside Jhen Moran's mouth when he falls on his side. When killed he has at least 4 carves from the body, and some from the head. Cant confirm how many as time elapsed before I was able to complete carving or get to the tail to check for carves.
10. Low level armour can be upgraded to high rank + armour using armour spheres till maxed, then using parts from + monsters. This will attain the same def per piece as the + rank armour BUT it will retain the same skills as the low level armour. Something to consider as + rank armour often has different skills to it's low level version.
11. Skull Face helm will grant Torso Inc skill. This doubles the skill points on whatever chest armour you are using. Also doubles the gem skill points too. Example - Wearing chest with +3 evade and 2 slots. Got a +3 evade gem that requires 2 slots in the chest for a total of +6 evade. With Torso Inc that would double to +12 evade. Useful for mix and match sets to get different skill combo's.
12. Awakening. This is an armour skill that will add an element to any non-elemental raw dmg weapon. For example, a raw damage hammer such as Iron Striker (I think) gains an Ice element. Awakening skill available on Laggy+ and Albatrion gear. Bear in mind low lvl Laggy armour may not have this skill when upgraded.
13. Armour skills can be easily checked by holding the Z button on the nunchuck / B button on CC pad to bring the wii pointer up.... point the wiimote/target reticle at the skill and it will explain what it does. Same applies to food skills and decorations.. in fact all skills/descriptions will work like this. Lots easier than checking the net for skill descriptions.
14. Using the same pointer, on the crafting/upgrade screen in the workshop, you can drag and drop Armour/Weapon crafting materials into the 'Memo' section of the Hunters Notes. Now, whenever you carve an item in your memo list the game will play a sound to indicate you just received an item you required.
15. Skip kill cutscenes using the minus button on the wiimote. Equiv button for pad. Also skips into movies such as the one for Jhen Moran.
16. Life Powders will heal you and anyone nearby when consumed. Take these along with Health Horns to help top off the groups health. Very useful for monsters like blos/los/ian that can corner you and triple whammy you into a quick trip to cat cart city.
17. You can stagger a monster and break its charge with a well timed hammer superpound.
18. The hammer superpound is deceptively weaker than previous games. Golf swing and triple pound remain the high dmg moves. Superpound is easier to get off on faster monsters (and used to make Raths a joke) and so the dmg has been reduced to compensate. Bigspin into golfswing, and the triple pound remain high dmg as require better timing to pull off.
19. When affected by fire, rolling will get rid of the staus effect. Quicker to find some water to roll once in though. Same applies for Gigi whelps, roll to shake them off. Mud/Snow from Barroth/Barrioth cant be removed via rolling, but the duration of the effect can be reduced by rolling.
20. When typing a msg, tab on the keyboard will allow you to send a private msg to a player.
21. Guest houses are in Lodge Street for saving/box storage. Three levels of house available. Can open house up to other players to check out, can also furnish houses like in the offline village.
22. Meal vouchers can be redeemed to prepare a meal for 4 players. The effects should be stronger than normal.
23. Speak to the elder at the base camp of quests (except Volc, he's at the top of the volcano) to receive extra items ranging from traps, to first aid meds, rations, psycoserum's etc...
24. Coins are obtained via Arena quests.
25. The skill that doubles the length of time till your weapon loses sharpness is more valuable than quick sharpener... unless you have a weap with very little green+ sharpness in which case, speed sharpener is better almost every time.
26. Sleep weapons go hand in hand with bombs. If online, inform the group that you are sleep bombing and ask that everyone stops hitting the monster when it goes to sleep. Other than the obvious visual indicator for this (monster lying down), the music will also stop. This is the time to stop hitting it. Lay as many bombs as poss, as close to the head as poss, then detonate. Sleeping monsters take extra dmg from bombs, combine this with a bomb strength up skill for even more damage. Rinse and repeat.
27. If not sleep bombing, sleep weaps can also help on fast movers like Blos. Stopping him, even for a second to let people get max dmg hits off can help a lot.
28. Hammers can hit blos face to break horns at certain points in the fight. Watch when he enrages and notice the head dip as he does a mini roar. Can get him full in the face. Only 2/3 monsters in the game that are hard to hit in the face with a hammer, all 2/3 of them can be reached with golfswings with the correct timing. Anything you cant hit in the face, wail on the legs till it falls over then triple pound the face. Bear in mind, full charge superpounds will take more time to break face/horns/crests -------------------- Rack em up here if you have any more.
