Is anyone online tonight to have a go at this?

I'd like to get a bit of practice in so i am a little better prepared for the level 30 urgent. It seems a good opportunity to get to grips with using some of the weapons on the boat and i would like to try blowing up his tusks :D

Plus if i can't get a bloody rust weapon i may be able to get enough mats off Mohran to make a dragon damage SnS.

Yeah I'll be around tonight to try this... just came here to post some stuff about Jhen actually.

I just read from a couple of places, during Part One, spam Ballista and Cannon at his face/tusks as much as possible. When you can jump to his back, break all weak spots on spine as priority one. If all weak spots are gone, wail on the tusks at the front, or bomb them.

When he attacks boat from front, use Dragonator, when he attacks from sides, use Hunting Gong to stagger.

Some people say to just spam ballista in stage 2? Is that the walking stage?

If so I think a more viable strat is to trip the sonofabitch by wailing on the feet/legs like we were.. only when he falls, bomb the shit out of his mouth.

- apparently you can climb in the mouth and carve when he is knocked down in the final stage, can also place bombs -

Other than that, I know I personally could use the last upgrade on my hammer to up my damage so the other strat I guess is to take your weap as far as it can go before Moran.

I thought it would be like Lao and not much damage would be inflicted to players, so I wasn't too worried about my -15 dragon resistance. Oh how wrong I was! I was getting knocked hell out of during the boat stage so I suggest if you have negative dragon res, get a charm or decorations to at least bring it up to zero... if you can turn out in a positive set all the better.

Found myself missing attack chances as was too busy healing up every 2 mins.

Will have more of a think about it this arvo and check out some youtube vids.

Few more things...

1. At least 110 def will help avoiding getting one-shotted

2. Immunizer will reduce the incoming damage quite a bit - his attacks have a large gap of time between them allowing immunizer, and/or recovery+ (if you have it on armour) to replenish the red portion of the health bar.

Got a few vids q'ed up to watch when I get in tonight.. will post up more if I find owt.

EDIT:

3. Apparently breaking his back/spine lowers his max HP. Not very solid confirmation on that though...

4. Max damage inflicted via the mouth? Gunner with pierce shot on final stage?

5. Ballista/Cannon spam is advised. High Speed gather set to inrease damage over time by making ballista ammo refill faster.

6. Felyne bombadier causes cannons to do double damage

EDIT:

More and more places I'm reading you can literally just cannon spam him to death on the low level urgent. Lots of people suggesting to keep at the very least two people on ballista/cannon detail at all times. Ballista when he's at distance, Cannon when he comes in range.

EDIT:

The rope wrapper thing Col mentioned is via the Binder ammo in the item box. Fire it via a ballista launcher and harpoon Shen Moran with it.

Perhaps agree on someone to use Binder and have them do Gong and Dragonator all the time too?

EDIT:

I think you can only repel in the event. Kill is for regular quest.

This event is back up! The High Rank version (HR30+) is also up so it will be possible to get higher level parts.

I'd like to give this a bash while it's up (although fairly busy this next week so not sure i'll get on much) to see how much Jhen hurts in the higher ranked quests.

Another thing to add to Topknots tips is that whoever is gonna be on Gong duty during the final stage needs earplugs, not sure if High Grade Earplugs are required.

Timings for Gong/Binder/Dragonator:

Dragonator Initial Stage - needs to be activated as Jhens head first emerges from the sand on his way towards the front of the ship, it seems VERY early and unnatural but it's right, watch someone else do it the first time to get the hang of it.
Dragonator Final Stage - much easier to connect this, however my advice would be to let the person carrying the Binder ammo do it, when Jhen is close use the Binder on him then run straight to the Dragonator and whack it.

Binder/Gong should be used to stop Jhen's attacks, during the initial part use either of these attacks as Jhen starts an attack. During the final stage again both can be used to stop his attacks...use them as he rears his head up and roars as he lands hard on the ship afterwards, the gong used at this time will actually knock him onto his back for long enough to get a few carves out of his mouth.

Bit of a warning about the high rank version.

When he hits, he hits VERY hard.

Fuzzyduk and myself gave it a try last night with a random who was level 52 and on numerous occasions nearly died. The random died twice and then went into Jhen mouth as we knocked him onto his back....I thought it was all over at that point as he died the last time he did that. Anyway we did manage the repel.

Early stage shoulder barge was taking 110 or so off me, I was wearing full Rathian, all upgraded to around 70 defense and I had +10 Dragon resist gemmed for the battle.

Rocks hitting seemed to take around 60-80 damage.

Getting caught in Jhens mouth I took 140 damage and was lucky to survive, the level 52 with us died that time and I think he was on full health (wearing Rathalos armour though which isn't great dragon resist)

What i'm saying is get your best armour on for this one and gem up for dragon resist.
